I have a few questions about tutoring I was hoping you could help me with. I was starting to work on my wiki post for this week's tutoring session and I was just wondering what sort of information you would like us to include. Should it just be a reflection of what you did in the session and how the student did and what we thought about it?
Also, my student asked several times if he could take a book from the collection in the tutoring center. I wasn't sure if this was allowed or not. The mother also asked me if I had anything to give him to read during the week. I wasn't sure if this was something I should be doing or not. We read books during our session, but should I also give him something to read as homework?

There are no correct or incorrect postings for the tutoring responses. Yes, what you did would be a great start. You do not need to tell a step by step synopsis, unless there was something specific in your reasoning for doing so. Definitely "reflect" placing your professional insight into what occurred EX: While John was reading, I noticed he was relying more on graphophonic cues, seldom using semantic cues. Though he did use semantic cues a couple of times, this is an area I hope to help strengthen in his reading. An upcoming activity I have in mind.. This is just an example, please do not feel "confined" when writing, the freer you are with your thoughts, I believe the more beneficial this will be for you.
Though, I would love for students to take book homes, we don't want to run the risk of books not coming back. I will check with Dr. Crumpler on this, but I believe it is just the tutors and ISU students who have book borrowing privileges. What I would do is speak with his mother, sharing with her his strong desire to check out books. Both the Normal and Bloomington libraries have excellent children's libraries. I would use this opportunity as an avenue to try to encourage library visits. I remember receiving my first library card, and there is a great autonomy to reading that occurs during this event. :)
Though homework is not required, if the student and mother wish to read at home, you may use Reading A-Z to print a book "copy." This is great that reinforcement of the importance and desire to read additionally (which should be the natural case :) has extended into the home and mom is an advocate. Again, let me check with Dr. Crumpler and I'll get back to you.
Finally, if there is a certain book he would enjoy reading, or topics he enjoys, please share with me. I am going to purchase some Bad Kitty books this week.

I tried to up load my post last week and it said it saved. Today at the library I looked to see if it was there and was sad to see it was not. It told me i could post the saved draft from eariler... This was my post. For the posting on this wiki do you need an undated adobie or something??? I was just wondering. Now that i know the library is a less complcated way of posting i will have it more timely but i was wondering if i needed any updates for my laptop or if my internet connection was just weak.

I see your post, now. Did you copy and paste it? I am a bit curious when you say you uploaded. No, you should not need anything other than connection to the internet. If you are able to post messages on Facebook and online communities such as that, you should have no problem with the wiki. If the internet connection is slow, this may have been the issue.
I apologize you had issues that resulted in having to repost. Make sure you type your reflection in a word document first. A few of my classes require that we use a wiki for posting reflections on assigned readings. I always make sure I type these in a word document first, because there are times where the page will read that the text is being "saved" to no avail. I then have to copy and paste, again. It is better to copy and paste than to have to retype everything. :(
